DIMENSIONS:
Frame: 16¾" Height x 9¼" Width
Plate: 11½" Height x 4¾" Width
Weight: 4.3 oz.

DESCRIPTION:
Possibly from the venerated regional California School of American painting and printmaking of the 1920s and 30s, with its celebration of Native Americans, the untouched natural habitat of the vast western wilderness and its almost mystical, erased reverence and unrivaled natural beauty. This antique, vertical format, black ink on artists printmaking paper by the American artist Theresa A. Garrett, has as its theme, a single Native American figure on horseback, coming to a full stop under a canopy of enormous old growth pine and birch trees in an untouched coniferous forest, that seems nearly impenetrable. The rider appears to be a male with tied back hair in a ponytail, is barefoot and sits on the horse with only leather reins and with no saddle, in the Native American tradition of riding, with only perhaps a woven riding blanket on the back of the horse. The vertical format of the black and white etching, allows for the idea of towering trees and the unparalleled density of the forest, to be fully and convincingly illustrated. Signed in pencil in the lower right, outside of the pictorial field in cursive handwriting, along the lower margin. Unframed but with the prints original cut matting. Very nice.

CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
